Totton College Performing Arts & Red Parachute Theatre Company
Written in 1879 Ibsen's 'A Dolls House' is one of the most ground breaking plays in theatrical history. Blackmail and innocence, love and hypocrisy, honour and betrayal all collide.
Nora thought she had the perfect life until a ghost from the past returns. Forced to confront reality, she recognises that she is little more than her husband’s plaything, a doll in a doll’s house.

The Forsyte Saga Nuffield Theatre
Thursday 24th January 7.30pm Tickets £10.

The ultimate in family drama, The Forsyte Saga charts the progress of a well-to-do London dynasty, weaving a tale of love, obsession and deceit through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. From Soames’ possessive love for Irene, to June’s thwarted passion for Philip Bossini, through to the breach of trust between Old Jolyon Forsyte and his wayward son, this hugely thrilling drama brings John Galsworthy’s classic novel to life. Following on from two hugely successful television productions, the Southampton University Players bring this tale of passion, betrayal and ultimately redemption to The Nuffield Theatre in January.

Little Women Nuffield Theatre Maskers Theatre
Tuesday 29th January 7.30pm Tickets £10.00 Special offer 2 for 1

Little Women tells the classic story of the four spirited March sisters growing up in New England in the 1860s – against the backdrop of the American Civil War. This engaging adaptation sensitively illustrates the sisters’ path to maturity.
It captures the imagination of modern readers and audiences as firmly as those who took the March family to their hearts when they made their first appearance in 1868.
Little Women evokes a nostalgia for the charm of yesteryear and those salad days when everything seemed simpler, kinder and more clearly defined.

The Winslow Boy by Terence Rattigan – Salisbury Playhouse
Thursday 5th February 2.30pm performance Tickets £12.00

"Let Right be done"
On the eve of the First World War, cadet Ronnie Winslow is expelled from Osborne Royal Naval College, accused of stealing and cashing a five-shilling postal order.

His family's fight to prove their young son's innocence leads to the employment of top QC Sir Robert Morton. But as the legal battle provokes a national outcry which affects the lives of all involved, the price of justice becomes an ever-heavier burden.

Inspired by a real case, Rattigan's compelling drama is a deeply moving story of passion and politics. It is directed by the Playhouse's Artistic Director,

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain The Point, Eastleigh

Friday 19th December Tickets £16.00 7.30pm

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is an all-strumming, all-singing group, which takes all kinds of music and puts it under the microscope of the ukulele. The clue is in the name.

The performances are funny, ironic, thought provoking and the work is often moving. Concerts are often sold out, whether in the UK or in Japan, USA, Germany, Sweden or elsewhere. The orchestra have packed the field at Glastonbury and also played at classical music festivals. Because they're hard to categorise they fit in anywhere. They can rock hard, make your face ache because you can't stop laughing, or turn you into a sentimental thing with their poignant pieces. – Brilliant entertainment.

Salisbury Playhouse -‘People At Sea’ By JB Priestley
Everyone was disappointed both in the direction and acting

Touched’ by Stephen Lowe. – An apt title for a play I’m still trying to understand. A very slow start had us undecided by the interval and when the final curtain fell we were left with many questions – had she eaten the magic mushrooms, what was real and what was fantasy. I am still thinking about the play so maybe that is a positive

“There’s two sorts o’ people on this ship- There’s the people who’ve had it all their own way up to now., then there’s people like us, who’ve never had a chance”
When an art-deco ocean liner catches fire in the Caribbean, passengers and crew are forced to abandon ship. However, faulty lifeboats and bad weather force twelve individuals to remain. As the ship lists and slowly sinks, tensions rise to the surface and the stricken passengers and crew are forced to pull together and pray to be rescued.
This new production is a rare opportunity to see this little-known thriller, by the author best known for An Inspector Calls, Dangerous Corner and I Have Been Here Before.

’Touched’ by Stephen Lowe. 10th April
“You can’t have it, duck, you know that, don’t you? I mean, there’s no way you can have it.
Not with him coming back like that.
I can understand how you feel, but there’ll be others, and it’ll be right then. They’ll be his”
Summer 1945. In the hundred days between victory in Europe and Victory in Japan, three sisters in a working-class suburb of Nottingham contemplate the challenges of peace after war. One of them falls in love with a Polish airman; another discovers she is pregnant, while her husband is still away. All face an uncertain future as families await the return of their menfolk. Thirty years after its first production by Richard Eyre, this humorous, compassionate and uplifting play is vividly revived for a new generation.

Totton Festival of Drama 13th – 15th March 7.30pm Hanger Farm Arts Centre
From the depths of emotion to howling with laughter, the Totton Festival of Drama has it all and you can experience it at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre, Aikman Lane, West Totton, from the 13th – 15th March 2008.
The Totton Festival is a Round One of the All England Theatre Festival, the only nationwide eliminating contest for one act plays. Showcasing the best of local drama groups from all over South Hampshire.
The annual festival, now in its 29th year, is now a fixture at The Hanger Farm Arts Centre, a beautifully converted 17th century barn. It makes the perfect venue by creating an excellent ambience for live theatre and a great atmosphere for the performers to tread the boards.
With two play per night the festival is such a great way for audiences to experience a wide variety of live theatre in a single evening”.
Recognising the quality of new writing the festival has encouraged, the Waterside Herald has donated a trophy to award the playwright for the ‘best original script’.
Groups and audience are also treated to the professional feedback from GODA Associate Adjudicator John Scowen who casts his experienced eye on the evening’s entertainment.
The three night festival starts at 7.30pm each evening and with tickets priced at only £6 (£5 Concessions) there really is no excuse not to book your tickets for what promises to be some first class entertainment.
For tickets please contact the Hanger Farm Arts Centre Box Office on 023 8066 7683. For more information on the festival please contact tottondrama@ntlworld.com or phone 0238086 2882
