Joking
Apart by Alan Ayckbourn Salisbury Playhouse
Friday 1st
March 7.30. Tickets £12.00
Richard
and Anthea are the ideal couple. Charming, generous and successful,
they can’t help but attract loyal and loving friends.
Is
it possible that being friends with such a golden couple can have its
downfalls? Could you actually come to loathe such lovable people,
especially when they are so… well… ‘nice’?
Richard,
Anthea and their friends repeatedly gather to relax and compete, both
on and off the tennis court, as their private agonies emerge to
devastating effect.
Played
out in the same back garden over a twelve-year period, this painfully
funny play explores the unrelenting themes of ageing, jealousy and
unrequited love.
Of
all his seventy-six plays (so far!), Sir Alan Ayckbourn has
frequently said that Joking Apart is one of his favourites.

The
Seagull by Anton Chekhov
Tuesday
16th April 7pm Tickets £10
“A
lake. A young girl who’s spent her life beside it. She loves the
lake, she’s happy, she’s free — like a seagull. Then a man
comes along, sees her, and destroys her.”
A
play about unrequited love — a story about how we create stories —
and one of the greatest plays of the modern era. In The Seagull,
Chekhov explores emotion, creativity and romantic conflict with the
clarity of a doctor and the heart of a poet.
This
new version is a co-production between The Nuffield and Headlong,
both renowned for their innovative, accessible re-imaginings of
classic texts. The Seagull is directed by Blanche McIntyre,
recently described by London’s Evening Standard as “a rising
star.”

Direct

Times) spy thriller, The 39 Steps, brilliantly and hilariously
recreated as the smash hit Olivier Award Winning Best New Comedy.
This
blissfully funny show follows the incredible adventures of our
handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip, British
gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders,
double crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly
beautiful women.
This
wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features four
fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun
and thrilling action.
