A very slow start had us undecided by the interval and when the final curtain fell we were left with many questions – had she eaten the magic mushrooms, what was real and what was fantasy. I am still thinking about the play so maybe that is a positive

When an art-deco ocean liner catches fire in the Caribbean, passengers and crew are forced to abandon ship. However, faulty lifeboats and bad weather force twelve individuals to remain. As the ship lists and slowly sinks, tensions rise to the surface and the stricken passengers and crew are forced to pull together and pray to be rescued.
This new production is a rare opportunity to see this little-known thriller, by the author best known for An Inspector Calls, Dangerous Corner and I Have Been Here Before.

Summer 1945. In the hundred days between victory in Europe and Victory in Japan, three sisters in a working-class suburb of Nottingham contemplate the challenges of peace after war. One of them falls in love with a Polish airman; another discovers she is pregnant, while her husband is still away. All face an uncertain future as families await the return of their menfolk. Thirty years after its first production by Richard Eyre, this humorous, compassionate and uplifting play is vividly revived for a new generation.

From the depths of emotion to howling with laughter, the Totton Festival of Drama has it all and you can experience it at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre, Aikman Lane, West Totton, from the 13th – 15th March 2008.
The Totton Festival is a Round One of the All England Theatre Festival, the only nationwide eliminating contest for one act plays. Showcasing the best of local drama groups from all over South Hampshire.
The annual festival, now in its 29th year, is now a fixture at The Hanger Farm Arts Centre, a beautifully converted 17th century barn. It makes the perfect venue by creating an excellent ambience for live theatre and a great atmosphere for the performers to tread the boards.
With two play per night the festival is such a great way for audiences to experience a wide variety of live theatre in a single evening”.
Recognising the quality of new writing the festival has encouraged, the Waterside Herald has donated a trophy to award the playwright for the ‘best original script’.
Groups and audience are also treated to the professional feedback from GODA Associate Adjudicator John Scowen who casts his experienced eye on the evening’s entertainment.
The three night festival starts at 7.30pm each evening and with tickets priced at only £6 (£5 Concessions) there really is no excuse not to book your tickets for what promises to be some first class entertainment.

Friday 20th July 9.15am saw 43 members and friends defying the predicted rain and on the way to The Globe Theatre, London. The rain came but we were in the coach! By the time we arrived at The Globe we had driven through the storm and arrived in the dry. Not for long though, as we started the Globe tour back came the heavy rain and though our tour was a little restricted, it was interesting to see the rain pouring down the lift doors and flooding areas of the floor including the pit. Weren’t we pleased our seating was undercover! However, unpredictable as ever, the weather changed dramatically and by 2pm when we were all sat in the auditorium waiting for the performance of The Merchant of Venice to begin, the ushers were handing out sun hats to all those in the pit. The improved weather increased our enjoyment of this excellent production and John McEnery’s performance of Shylock was definitely worthy of a special mention. A well balanced production with Director Rebecca Gatward making the most of Shakespeare’s bawdy humour. A superb theatrical experience where the audience is made to feel a part of the production.
At 5.15pm we were all back on the coach buzzing about our great day out however it was far from over…. – The flooding and the Friday night traffic out of London meant that we all arrived back at Totton at 9.45pm hungry and tired but happy!

Friday 20th July 9.15am saw 43 members and friends defying the predicted rain and on the way to The Globe Theatre, London. The rain came but we were in the coach! By the time we arrived at The Globe we had driven through the storm and arrived in the dry. Not for long though, as we started the Globe tour back came the heavy rain and though our tour was a little restricted, it was interesting to see the rain pouring down the lift doors and flooding areas of the floor including the pit. Weren’t we pleased our seating was undercover! However, unpredictable as ever, the weather changed dramatically and by 2pm when we were all sat in the auditorium waiting for the performance of The Merchant of Venice to begin, the ushers were handing out sun hats to all those in the pit. The improved weather increased our enjoyment of this excellent production and John McEnery’s performance of Shylock was definitely worthy of a special mention. A well balanced production with Director Rebecca Gatward making the most of Shakespeare’s bawdy humour. A superb theatrical experience where the audience is made to feel a part of the production.
At 5.15pm we were all back on the coach buzzing about our great day out however it was far from over…. – The flooding and the Friday night traffic out of London meant that we all arrived back at Totton at 9.45pm hungry and tired but happy!

Friday 15th June saw 11 members back at our favourite theatre the Salisbury Playhouse to see a very enthusiastic performance of The Boyfriend by the Stage '65 Youth Theatre. The young people romped through the show and gave lively performances of ‘young ladies’!

Wednesday 2nd May saw a large group of us seated comfortably at the Mayflower Theatre for ‘Guys and Dolls’ – a real American show with some excellent choreography. . Shaun Williamson made an admirable Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide was well played by Lynsey Britton.
Frank Loesser's classic musical hits such as Luck be a Lady, Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat, and of course the wonderful title song Guys and Dolls had us all tapping our feet and reminiscing about that film we saw - how many years ago?.....
